Biografia

Klaas è Chief Services Officer presso GÉANT, dove guida i team Trust & Identity, Security, Products & Services, Cloud e New Services Development. Con un background in identità, mobilità e sicurezza, Klaas ha ricoperto ruoli di rilievo presso Cisco Systems e SURFnet, la rete NREN olandese, dove ha creato eduroam, il servizio di roaming Wi-Fi utilizzato quotidianamente da milioni di studenti e ricercatori in tutto il mondo. Nel 2012 ha ricevuto il primo GÉANT Community Award e nel 2019 è stato inserito nella Internet Hall of Fame, entrambi riconoscimenti per eduroam. Abstract

Servizi di autenticazione e autorizzazione in un mondo che cambia

Le infrastrutture di autenticazione e autorizzazione che conosciamo e apprezziamo, eduroam e eduGAIN, continuano a essere il fondamento dei nostri servizi di fiducia e identità. Tuttavia, il contesto in cui opera la comunità della ricerca e dell'istruzione sta cambiando rapidamente: la sovranità digitale sta assumendo un'importanza crescente e la Commissione europea ha lanciato diverse iniziative importanti come EOSC, EuroHPC, Erasmus senza carta e il Portafoglio di identità digitale dell'UE. Questa presentazione esamina le sfide poste da questi cambiamenti e mostra come, partendo dai nostri servizi di base, possiamo affrontarle.

Klaas is Chief Services Officer at GÉANT, leading the Trust & Identity, Security, Products & Services, Cloud, and New Services Development teams. With a background in identity, mobility, and security, Klaas has held senior roles at Cisco Systems and SURFnet, the Dutch NREN, where he created eduroam — the WiFi roaming service used daily by millions of students and researchers worldwide. In 2012 he received the first-ever GÉANT Community Award, and in 2019 was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame, both in recognition of eduroam. He has chaired the GÉANT Task Force on Mobility, the IETF Abfab working group, and served on the IETF Security Directorate. Klaas is co-author of Building the Mobile Internet (2011) and Wireless Networking in the Developing World (2013), has authored a number of RFCs, and holds five US patents.

Abstract

Authentication and Authorisation services in a changing world

The authentication and authorisation infrastructures that we know and love: eduroam and eduGAIN continue to be the foundation for our trust and identity services. The environment in which the research and education community operates however is rapidly changing: digital sovereignty is increasingly important, the EC has launched a number of important initiatives like EOSC, EuroHPC, Erasmus without Paper and the EU Digital Identity Wallet. This presentation looks at the challenges that these changes pose and show how, building on our foundational services, we can address those challenges.
