Pisa has an international airport with daily flights to London, Munich, Rome, Milan and other major Italian cities. Arrival and departure times are available on the Pisa Airport website.
The airport is located on the outskirts of the city, about 3 km from the city centre. The simplest way to reach the centre is usually by taxi. If no taxis are available, you can call the radio taxi service on (+39) 050 541600. Alternatively, you can take bus number 3 to Piazza della Stazione, then change to bus number 2 and get off at the Via F. Buonarroti stop.
You can consult the map of Pisa and the airport.
By train
Pisa railway station lies on the main line connecting Turin to Rome. Connections to Florence are very frequent.
Train timetables are available on the Trenitalia website.
The department can be reached by taking bus number 2 and getting off at the Via F. Buonarroti stop.
From the station, the department is also reachable on foot (20–30 minutes).
You can consult the city centre map.
By car
Pisa is close to the junction of two motorways: the A12 running north–south (Sestri Levante – Livorno) and the A11 running east–west (Pisa – Florence). It is recommended to take the “Pisa Centro” exit, continue along the FI-PI-LI main road to the “Pisa nord-est” exit, and then follow the directions shown on the map for travellers arriving from the south and east.
If you are arriving from the north, it may be preferable to take the “Pisa Nord” exit, continue on the Aurelia road towards Pisa, and then follow the directions shown on the map for travellers arriving from the north.
Please note: Pisa is a small city with many pedestrian areas and restricted traffic zones. Parking is difficult and most parking areas require payment.
